A spam a day …
The days that I thought I was popular when my Inbox cracked on the load of e-mail has been long since. As online marketeer I’m allways interested in whats happening online. What have people come up with to draw my attention, to seduce or to persuade me . My professional curiosity by now has resulted in leaving my digital trail all over the web. And the pathfinders of the internet, aka hackers, track me down and fire their spam all over.
I have A friend who is salesman. The footer underneath his e-mail tells you:”I can be more persistent then you can be persuasive”. This must be the credo of spammers as they are so damn persistant. The thing I have with spam is a love hatred relation. I hate spam, even though I have spam filters I have to cleanout my inbox every day and these hours I cannot bill. On the other hand I admire the creativity these spamminals (spam criminals) show. It’s te combination of creativity, persistancy and empathy that every now and then I answer the spam aloud.
I hate it and love it at the same time when another spammer succeeds in tricking me into opening up a message and fool me with just another batch of viagra pills. Ooooh I feel such a looser with the idea they krept up my mind and figured out what combination of words I would fall for. The question arises, did they realy figure me out or was it just a matter of randomly generated texts that by accident fitted to my grey cells.
Last week our mail server went down. No e-mail, no spam. And the strange thing was, I missed it. Like playing a game of chess over the internet and the other player did not mail the next move. Leaving the game came to a standstill, curious what they wil come up with.
Spam on one hand is blocking the internet, costing companies millions of euro’s. On the other hand it is inspiring to play the mind game with the spammers and come up with smarter moves and solutions that block their endless stream of mail. I’m not promoting spam, it costs me time and money but look at it this way, spammer help us to learn how to cope with the information overload as this is a fact even without the spam.
Spam works like vaccinations: The cure for spam is a shot of spam a day.
PS: please react but leave out the spam

Hehe, so true. Without Spam we would live a wonderful life thinking everyone wanted to email us, we would still be on dial-up as broadband was designed to make the ISPs look like they were on top of everything.
Off to check for my vaccination.
